Abstract
28,872. Peard, O. L. Dec. 21. Fusible cut-outs. - A multiple-cartridge fuse comprises two copper end-blocks q, adapted to be secured by nuts d to the switchboard blades and blocks b, a, and connected by an insulating- tube plugged in the centre; six cartridge fuses f are secured to the faces of the blocks by screws. The fuses comprise a strong outer case of insulating-material in which is placed the fusible conductor m consisting of a thin stamping of tinned copper or silver reduced in section near the centre. The ends of the stamping are clamped between two copper terminals n secured in the tube by pins o, and filling-in pieces p comprising plaster -of -paris casts are inserted one on each side of the stamping so as to fill the space between the terminals. The carrying- capacity of the fuse may be varied by varying the number of cartridge fuses attached to the end blocks.
