Abstract
28,673. Walsh, J. W. Dec. 20. Tyre and like inflating-valves.-An air valvo for use on inflatable articles such as footballs comprises a cup-shaped plate 1 having a central opening through which is passed a flanged valve body 13 so as to nip the bladder between the cup and the valve body. A nut 7 secures the parts, and an ordinary valve having a central passage terminating in a lateral passage beneath an exterior rubber sleeve is afterwards added and secured by a flanged nut 6. The cup 1 may be stitched to the outer case of the football and carries a pivoted cover 4, a central opening in which may be moved into alinement with the valve for inflating. For convenience in deflating, a valve, Fig. 9, having a side opening 18 is used, and deflation is effected by passing a fine wire through the valve and pushing back the usual rubber sleeve. In a modified valve, Fig. 12, a spring 24 presses a disk 26 against the end of the air-channel. When applied to an air-bed or air-cushion the valve fitting includes a flanged cup 30, Fig. 14, secured by a nut 32, and the valve proper is protected by a screwed cover 33.
