Reel and endless-web apparatus.-A vertical cased machine for displaying play-bills, posters, placards, &c., in one or more directions in continuous series, with an interval of exposure for each advertisement, is actuated by a motordriven pin-wheel K<1>, engaging a rack K, connected to a cycle-chain M, passing over a freewheel N on a roller shaft H<2> and attached at its other end to the plunger P' of a dash-pot O. The rack is drawn down with its guide-pin S<2> resting against the right-hand side of a flexible guide S<3>, and the advertisement is changed, the dash-pot rising until a projection on its plunger raises a pivoted lever P<3> with the arm Z<3> connected thereto, and the pivoted arm X' is suddenly flung over by a spring, and carries a stud W with it. Thereby a contact Z<2> is thrown from a motor circuit contact X to the electric light contact Z, or to a neutral point set by rotating a stop Z'. A pin in the top slot of the rack K forces the stop S<2> past the resilient guide S<3>, and the next pin pushes the rack behind the guide S<3>, where it rises under the influence of the dash-pot plunger until it is pulled in against the pin-wheel by the coiled spring, and the operation of the machine is repeated.
