Abstract

Dynamos, cooling; armatures and field magnets, cooling; cores and carcase structures. -The rotor 3, Fig. 4, of a turbo-generator &c. is provided with an enlarged central cavity 6 through which a cooling-liquid, such as water or oil,-is forced axially. The liquid is supplied through hollow trunnions 4, 5, and, if a directly-coupled exciter is used, also through the shaft of the latter. The trunnions may either be cast or forged integrally with the rotor body; or the trunnion 5 may be formed separately, with a flange 20 secured to the rotor by shrinking, bolting, etc.; or both trunnions may be made separately. The cavity 6, Fig. 3, may be provided with flanges 19, which facilitate the transference of heat. The flanges may be of spiral shape so as to exert a driving action upon the liquid. According to the Specification, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), the outer end of the hollow shaft conveying the liquid to the rotor may have radial ducts surrounded by a wheel having vanes which accelerate the flow of liquid, the later being accumulated in a casing provided with an outlet pipe. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
