Abstract

26,451. Potter, A. C. Nov. 25. Bore-hole apparatus.-In apparatus for deep - boring, the cores of the strata bored through are raised by the combined action of compressed air and water. The boring- tube a is provided with an inner tube b leaving an annular space c between the tubes down which air from a compressor j may pass. The tube a is, in one form, connected to the upper part of a core barrel e by a fitting d which directs the flow of air upward and inwardly. The waterlevel being at o, air is forced into the annular space c, driving the water before it until it reaches the inner tube, into which it passes and effects the raising of the core and debris up the inner tube. If there is insufficient water already present, water is supplied in any suitable manner. In another form, the inner tube and core barrel are formed in one, and orifices for the entry of air are formed in the inner tube.
