Abstract

26,218. Schleyder Ash and Smoke Consumer, Ltd., [Schleyder, K.]. Nov. 23. Blast apparatus; baffles.-Apparatus for consuming smoke, shown as applied to a locomotive fire-box, consists of a casing A beneath the fire-bars, in which is a steam or like blower D which draws in air through a regulating-device B and passes it through a connexion E to a tubular nozzle F, above the fire-bars, where it is heated, the nozzle having a bent upper end with the outlet directed towards the furnace door. In the form shown, the valve device B, Figs. 7 and 8, is divided into radial cells 2, 3. The cells 2 are open at the bottom, the amount of opening being regulated by a rotating damper plate C with corresponding openings 7; while the cells 3 are closed at the bottom and open laterally through apertures 5. The blower D consists of a conical spiral tube with upwardlydirected jets. The nozzle F is formed of refractory rings 11, 11<a>, engaging one another by dovetailed projections 12. The walls are thickened in the portions next to and away from the fire, the rings being turned when one side has become burnt. The opening 16 in the mouthpiece of the nozzle is substantially rectangular, and within the mouthpiece is a cooling or auxiliary blower H, having jets 19 directed towards the opening. Two forms of fire-brick arch K, placed above the nozzle, are illustrated. In that shown in Fig. 10, the arch rests upon inclined water-tubes 24, and is perforated by holes 25, while in Fig. 12 is shown an arch supported on the enlarged top of the nozzle G by dovetail connexions 27.
