Steam - engine air pumps; temperature of fluid, controlling.-In steam-engine air-pumps having two cylinders, loaded bucket valves, and interconnected piston-rods adapted to reciprocate in opposite directions, the undersides of the cylinders are connected by means of a pipe passing through a cooler so that a portion of the condensation water from the wet airpump is cooled and injected into the dry airpump at each stroke thereof. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to a pump of the type described in Specification 1695/09. Upon the down-stroke of the wet air-pump bucket d<1>, a portion of the water in the space below it is forced, by reason of the loading of the bucket valve e<1>, through the cooler m into the dry air-pump a. The amount of water thus injected may be regulated by means of a valve p.
