Abstract

25,443. Scherfenberg, R. Nov. 15. Roasting-furnaces.-To regulate the temperature of all the chambers in a multiple-floor oreroasting furnace and to avoid superheating in the upper floors, the whole or a portion of the sulphurous gases are conveyed direct from the single floors and the uppermost chamber where they are mixed, and hot air free from sulphur dioxide is introduced into the upper floors, or in some cases into all the floors. As shown in Fig. 1, the lower floors are connected to the uppermost chamber by valved conduits u, and hot air is introduced to the upper chambers from adjustable apertures r in the outer jacket of the rabble shaft, the air being heated by circulating through the rabble arms. Air is admitted to the lowest chamber through adjustable openings s. In a modification, each floor is supplied with air from the rabble shaft and is connected to the uppermost chamber by separate conduits, the two lowest floors having four and the remaining floors having eight conduits each. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, each floor is independently connected to the uppermost chamber and air from the rabble shaft passes to a conduit w and is delivered to the various chambers through passages x having external valves z and connected to annular delivery chambers y. Specifications 3985/83 and 22,504/91 are referred to.
