Abstract

24,656. Zeitz, H. R. O. Nov. 6. Endless-chain machines.-Relates to machines for the manufacture of cement tiles in which moulds 19, fitted with loose bottom plates and carried by an endless chain 20, are brought, in turn, beneath filling, pressing, smoothing, colouring, polishing, and discharging devices. The sand and cement are fed from hoppers 1, 2, through measuring-devices 3, 4, to a dry mixer 5 and thence to a wet mixer 6, from the outlet 8 of which the mixture drops into buckets 10 and is conveyed to the hopper 17 of the mouldfilling device 18. Each mould is filled to excess, superfluous material dropping on to a shaking tray 22 which conveys it back to the mixer 6. After filling, the moulds pass successively beneath a levelling and pressing apparatus 21, a moistening-device 77, fixed and movable smoothing-devices 82, 83, colour-strewing apparatus 100, polishing-devices 112, and discharging and trimming apparatus 113. The buckets are attached to chains 11, Fig. 3, passing around wheels 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, disposed as shown. Each bucket travels vertically during filling, owing to the wheels 14, and the feed is controlled by a slide 9 reciprocated beneath the outlet 8 by a lever 29 mounted on a shaft 28, which is rocked by a disk 24 mounted co-axially with the wheels 14 and provided with projections 25, 26 adapted to engage alternately with a projection 35 formed on a rod 31 attached to a lever 30 mounted on the shaft 28 and with the arm 33 of a bell-crank lever 32 connected to the rod 31. To ensure complete discharge, each bucket is connected to the chains 11 by links 37, 37, Fig. 3, of which the latter are provided with arms 37b adapted to engage a fixed bar 39, Fig. 3, and propel the bucket suddenly forward until the arms 37 strike against the bottom of the bucket. The device 21, Fig. 7, comprises a series of profiled plungers 61, 61, 61b, reciprocated by eccentrics 62. The plunger 61 is reciprocated vertically, and is formed with a sloping wall 67 to distribute the material. The plungers 61 are connected to the corresponding eccentrics by rigid rods 64 sliding through pivoted sleeves 66 so that an elliptical movement, simulating hand stamping, is imparted to them. Adjustment of the plungers is obtained by mounting the sleeves 66 adjustably within the framework 21. Collars 74, 75, fitted with cushioning - devices, retain the plungers. The last plunger 61 works vertically. The moistening-device comprises a perforated tube extending across the machine and fitted with a cam-operated valve. The smoothing-device comprises a plate 82, Fig. 11, adjustable within a sleeve 84, which is adjustably clamped to a rod 87. The devices 83, Fig. 14, are carried by arms 95 hinged to a cross-bar 97 and are restrained by a U-shaped member 83 embracing a rod 97. Fig. 15 shows the colour-strewing apparatus, which comprises a container 98 fitted with a measuring-wheel 99, beneath which is arranged a vibrating sieve 100. The compartments of the wheel 99 are completely emptied by a scraper 91 pivoted at 91 and influenced by a spring 92. A segmental ratchet-wheel 105 acting upon a projection 104 vibrates the sieve in conjunction with a spring 103. The polishing-devices 112 are similar to the smoothing- devices 83. Fig. 17 shows the discharging- device, which comprises fingers 116, 117 carried by an arm 115 of the chain-wheel 114. The finger 117 is pivoted and has a cranked extension 117 which engages the mould bottom and causes the finger to assume the position shown in Fig. 17, thus keeping the article horizontal. A frame 121 carried by lugs 120 sliding on guides 119 is provided with a hook 126 which is engaged by a projection 127 on the mould, so that this frame travels with the mould during discharge. Wires 122 carried by the frame trim the edges of the tile as it is discharged. The front end 121 is hinged at 123, Fig. 18, being retained by a hook 125 which is deflected by a stop 128. An extension 121<c> of the side 121 carries a roller 124 adapted to engage with stops 124, 124 to open and close, the side 121. A stop 129, Fig. 17, deflects the hook 125, after which the frame is returned by an arm 130 engaging a projecting roller 132 carried by the guide 120. The arm 130 is operated by a lever 135 which is deflected by a rotating arm 133.
