Abstract

Electrical systems, automatic; track apparatus actuating signals on trains; miniature signals.-Relates to systems of the kind shown in Fig. 2 in which the trains A, B, and C carry each a source of electric energy, a signal indicator and devices making contact with track contact rails m arranged to overlap and extend along the track so as to indicate on each train the presence of another train in an adjacent section. The invention consists in the arrangement of the circuits and apparatus on the train, which is provided with a dynamo or accumulator k, Fig. 1, a miniature semaphore c operated by an electro-magnet d, lamps b, b<1>, a bell g, switches j, i for code signalling between trains on adjacent sections and a testing-switch h to be used by the driver to ascertain the working order of his apparatus. When two trains are in adjacent sections, a circuit is closed from the dynamo k on one train through lamps b, the magnet d, the bell g, to the track rail r, and thence to the other train from the track rail r, through the bell g, the magnet d, the lamps b' to the contact rail p, which is identical with the contact rail o in the adjacent section, and from the rail o to the dynamo k on the firstmentioned train. At switch points, contacts are actuated by the movements of the points to connect sections of the contact rails with those on the branch line, when the points are in position to permit trains to pass on to the branch. Similar switches are operated by the ordinary semaphores to indicate the ' danger ' positions on the train. Crossing - gate signals; alarm apparatus for warning platelayers and the like.-Crossing- gates may be fitted with lamps, bells, and sliding shoe contacts similarly to trains, and similar portable sets may be carried by platelayers to receive warning of the approach of trains.
