Hydrocotarnine; hydrohydrastinine; hydrastinine.-Hydrohydrastinine is produced by the reduction of hydrocotarnine, for example by means of sodium and ethyl alcohol or fusel oil. As hydrocotarnine can be prepared by the reduction of cotarnine, and hydrastinine by the oxidation of hydrohydrastinine, the above process enables hydrastinine to be prepared from cotarnine.
