Agglomerating processes. - Fine ores mixed with carbonaceous material are sintered by igniting the surface of a layer of the mixture, and completing the combustion under the action of a down-draught. The ore and fuel are mixed and moistened in a receptacle 11, and the mixture is fed in an even layer over an endless grate, or series of carriers 2 with perforated bottoms. Ignition is started by a burner 14, and the combustion products are withdrawn through a box 5 with a suction pipe 6; after the combustion is completed, the draught acts to cool the sintered mass which is eventually discharged into cars 15.
