Abstract
22,246. Prince, W. A. Oct. 9. Cross-heads and cross-head guides.-The body B of a locomotive cross-head has integral rear side plates 10, and detachable front side plates 14. The top, bottom, and side brasses are so arranged that they may be removed or liners inserted without disconnecting the cross-head from the piston-rod or connecting-rod. The side flanges 3 are provided with strengthening-lugs 4, and retain oil and grease. Corresponding lugs 5 are provided above and below the piston-rod socket S. The side plates 10 have shoulders 11 and inwardly projecting undercut flanges 12 to retain the side brasses 30 which are adjusted by set screws 21. The removable front plates 14 are similarly constructed, are secured by bolts 16, and have lugs 20 to hold the front set screws 21. The ends of the beds 8 rise above their flat surfaces, the forward ends are undercut at 40, and the other ends have inwardly-projecting flanges 41 adjacent to grooves 42 across the beds. The top and bottom brasses are held between these ends, and are adjusted by inclined keys, Fig. 7, which enter the grooves. Wear may be taken up by grinding-off the bevelled faces 51, 52 and inserting liners between the brasses 9 and body B.
