Abstract
20,066. Jacquier, G. Sept. 9. Wet processes of extracting metals; cyaniding; chloridizing; sulphatizing; precipitating.- The precipitation of metal by means of aluminium from metal salt solutions is assisted by subjecting the solution to the action of sunlight before or during the precipitation treatment. The solution may in addition be heated to about 30‹ C. to assist the precipitation. The invention is stated as being applicable to the recovery of gold from its ores, or the precipitation of salts of gold, thallium, copper, zinc, or lead. In the plant illustrated, the aluminium is in sheets 11 supported from a frame 4, which is raised or lowered into either of the precipitation vats by a tackle 5. A trough 16 also of aluminium rests in the bottom of the vat, and is raised or lowered by the same tackle. The tank is open at the top to allow the entrance of sunlight, and is preferably covered with a sheet of glass during the precipitation process. The solution is run off through a pipe 28 provided with a perforated diaphragm for straining the liquor. The solution to be treated is contained in a storage tank 17, which is preferably open at the top for the entrance of sunlight, and the solution is run from this tank into a shallow tray supported above the treatment tank and provided with a perforated bottom so that the solution is strained and aerated. Spilling of the solution is prevented by a funnel 21<c> placed on the precipitation vat. When treating the solution containing gold and zinc obtained in the cyanide process, the former is first precipitated and removed from the aluminium plates, which are afterwards replaced, and the zinc is precipitated as oxide. The residual solution may be used again in the process.
