Rope grips.-A haulage clip for colliery and like haulage ways comprises parallel arms B fitted at their lower ends with gripping-jaws A and mounted so as to swing on a transverse shaft D, the jaws being opened and closed by a slide L operated by a link N and crank 0 secured to the shaft D. The jaws are forced together by wedge surfaces M<1> on a plate M secured to the slide L, the arms B being of spring metal to allow this movement, or the jaws may be pivoted to the arms B. A stop Q limits the upward movement of the slide L so that further rotation of the shaft D raises the arms B, which may be balanced by weights K, to the position indicated in dotted lines. A cross-pin P prevents the jaws from falling too low. The bracket F in which the shaft D is mounted may be attached to the draw-bar of the wagon, or, as shown, it may be swung on a longitudinal pivot G so as to allow transverse freedom of movement to the clip. The shaft D is rotated by a hand-crank, or arms thereon may be arranged to engage stops on the permanent way.
