Sale apparatus. - In the vending - machine for selling pencils &c., described in Specification 8328/11, means are provided which enable the use of a large magazine capable of accommodating several tiers of articles without the danger of clogging. Storage.-The hopper comprises a wide upper portion 14 in which the articles are stored in bulk, and a narrow lower portion 15 containing a single column of the articles, the lowest of which rests on an ejector 9. It is provided with a pivoted floor 20 carried by the arm 21 of a lever 23 pivoted at 22 and having a pin-and-slot connexion with the slide 9. The front wall 18 is cut away in the centre so that the articles may be viewed through a glass panel 11<a>. Delivery mechanism.-After prepayment the operator presses in a handle (not shown) thereby moving the slide 9 to the left in Fig. 2 and permitting the lowest article to fall on the support 12, the arm 21 of the lever 23 simultaneously moving down the floor and assisting the downward movement of the articles. On releasing the handle, the slide is returned by a spring and pushes the article off the plate 12 'to a delivery slope 10, the arm 21 simultaneously lifting the floor-.20 to support the weight of the articles during the delivery.
