Abstract
13,989. Banes, E. E. Oct. 27, 1910, [Convention date]. Blowpipe burners.-Relates to a blowpipe and charging-apparatus for ore-treating furnaces, comprising concentric nozzles 52,51, with air and gas connexions 53, 50 respectively, and a concentric feed-screw 58 for powdered ore, which may be mixed with powdered coal, coke, or charcoal. The apparatus may be used for oxidizing galena to basic sulphate of lead. To give a whirling motion to the air blast, the central nozzle 52 is rifled internally, by means of helical grooves 55 on a tube 54, which is fitted internally with the feed-screw 58. For oxidizing reactions, air or oxygen is introduced through the necks 53, 65, and any suitable fuel gas through the neck 50, but this order may be changed. The mixture of gases and powdered ore &c. is ejected through the nozzle 43, at which it may be lighted, into a suitable furnace. Uniform conditions may be attained by driving the air blower and the feed-screw 58 from one source of power.
