Abstract

13,512. M³ntzing, A. June 9, 1910, [Convention date]. P r e s s u r e filters. - To separate solid matter from a liquid contained in a closed vessel under pressure without reducing the pressure, the mixture is passed from the vessel through a pipe 1 into a conical drum having perforated portions 2, 14 at its ends and an unperforated portion 3 in the middle. The portions 2, 14 are enclosed in mantles 24, 25 with outlets 10, 9. The liquid from the outlet 10 is returned to the closed vessel through a pump or the like. The solid matter is passed through the cone by a screw-shaped wing 11, which fits tightly within the unperforated portion of the drum. It can be adjusted longitudinally, and preferably has the part within the strainer 2 perforated. The solids are pressed in the part 14 and discharged into a drum 20 through a valve 15, which fits against a conical seating 16 and is opened by means of gearing 18. The mantles 24, 25 are provided with manometers and with inlets through which water or steam can be introduced to cleanse the strainers. The invention is stated to be especially applicable in connexion with the treatment of cellulose in a closed boiler.
