[Cognate Application, 14,522/11.] Cauldrons. - Relates to portable tar-boiling apparatus of the kind having a heated receiver between the cold tar receptacle and the boiler, and consists mainly in forming the heating- surface of the receiver so that the receiver is divided into two parts one of which receives the heated tar passing over the division-plate from the other, which receives the cold tar. The invention is particularly applicable to tar-boiling apparatus of the kind described in Specification 29,615/10, in which case the invention also covers means for heating the suction tube of the pump which supplies the boiler with tar. The removable tar barrel A, pump D, and tar boiler F are shown arranged upon a low trolly B, as in the above - mentioned Specification. The barrel discharges through a strainer C<5> on to a plate A<3> which directs the tar into the compartment C' of a receiver C the other compartment C' of which receives the end of the pump suction pipe E. The receiver C has a heating-surface C<3> of sinusoidal form and a separate fire-box C<2> with a separate uptake C<8> or a connexion C' with the main uptake. The suction tube E<1> passes round the outside of the boiler and is thereby heated, but it may be heated by the flue gases or by means of a steam jacket.
