Telephones, mounting and supporting. -.A hand combination set is provided with a spring plunger 16, which by means of a stud 14 and blade 13 controls the contacts 7, 8, 9. When the instrument is laid on the table, the base 17 raises the plunger and the circuit is broken at these contacts, but when it is raised the spring 15 actuates the plunger and the circuits are completed. In modifications, the plunger is replaced by a weighted lever or by a hinged part of the base, and the contacts may be placed behind the receiver 3. The transmitter may bo fixed to the wall, a flexible rubber tube connecting it to a mouthpiece which is mounted with the receiver. The instrument may otherwise be arranged so that the switches are operated when it is hung upon a hook.
