Abstract

Power factors, measuring; e l e c t r omagnetic current meters; coil windings.- Crossed coils for instruments such as powerfactor meters are made symmetrical, preferably by interlacing the windings of the coils as described in Specification 19,116/11. The layers of the coils are wound alternately, with a gap for the staff 9, on which they are fixed by plates cemented to the coils and having lugs for the passage of a pin through the staff. The coils are nearly circular in shape, and may be set at any angle. The coils are connected to tongues 14 of three metal rings 13 mounted between insulating collars 24 on an insulating-sleeve 23 clamped between a nut N and a collet 10 secured by a cross-pin 11 on the upper end of the staff. The enlarged end of the sleeve 23 is slotted to engage lugs on the collet 10, and is notched to receive the tongues 14 and hold them in definite angular relation. The pointer I is clamped upon the collet 10. The rings 13 have forked projections 15 to hold the inner ends of thin spirals 25 of silver, copper, or conducting-alloy. A bridge B for the upper jewel bearing and conductors 22 are clamped between insulating washers and sleeves 18 upon metal standards 4, the enlarged ends of the sleeves 18 being similarly slotted and notched to hold the conductors 22, so that their ends, to which the spirals 25 are connected, are in definite angular relation. The standards on which the field coils are clamped are mounted on a damper box in a casing with standard and adjustable resistances.
