Abstract

8977. Kilburn, B. E. D., [Sulzer, Geb.]. April 11. Regulating.-In apparatus for controlling the by-pass or overload valves in steam turbines through a servo-motor by the movement of the main regulating-valve, a part of the movement of this main valve is employed to move a piston valve, which controls the flow of fluid to the piston valve of the servo-motor. The spindle A of the main regulating-valve moves a piston C by means of a spring B, and connects a passage F to the source of liquid under pressure through a pipe E. A valve K in the servomotor piston J is thus raised against the action of a spring L, and thereby connects the spaces P, O below and above the servo-motor piston respectively. Pressure fluid thus flows through pipes M, N, Q, R to the exhaust S, and since the pipe N is of sufficiently small cross-section to reduce the pressure of the liquid entering the space O, the servo-motor piston is raised, and the by-pass valves are operated by the stem H. Specification 12,213/09, [Class 57, Governors &c.], is referred to.
