Abstract

8571. Sykes, H., and Sykes, H. April 6. Shuttles, threading.- The weft is drawn through the eye of a shuttle by placing the shuttle on a stand a, Fig. 4, so that its eye d is below the mouthpiece b of a suction pipe m. The mouthpiece b is pressed against the shuttle by one or more springs i, and an adjustable bracket k is employed to ensure correct positioning of the shuttle. The pipe m communicates either with a fan driven from the loom or from the line shafting or with a main suction device having branches leading to several looms. The mouthpiece b. may be arranged as shown in Fig. 3, so as to suck air in an horizontal direction, and a perforated disk &c. o may be used to prevent the thread from entering the pipe m. The pipe m may be closed by a cock, or may be left open to ventilate the weaving-shed.
