Abstract
6157. Goldstein, A. March 11. Watchmen and workmen, supervision systems for.-Relates to an electric system comprising transmitters for sending signals periodically through various stations unless watchmen visit these and break the circuit, the stations being provided with attachments for portable telephones which are automatically put in circuit at the proper times; fire alarms being also fitted. The wiring is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, where T represents the normal signal transmitter with a code wheel M, and I and II denote the stations. A clock-driven disk 16 revolves once a week, and during night hours and week-ends keeps closed contacts 19, 21 for the telephone circuit and a contact 17 for the normal signal. A disk 1, in electrical connexion with the clockdriven disk, at intervals of thirty minutes closes contacts 2, 3 in turn for the sub-stations I, II. At a station, I for instance, a signal is sent unless the watchman by insertion of a key in an opening 13 has set a notched disk 14 going to open the contacts 6, 61. If a signal arrives at the supervising-station, the watchman is called up. If the controlling-disks 16 should stop, a disk 32, synchronously driven, stops also, thus failing to raise a lever 30, which periodically raises a dash-pot on being engaged by pins 33,34 on the disk. This, sinking down, releases the pallet 25 of clock-work mechanism, which then sends a different code signal by means of a wheel 22. The circuits of this failure-transmitter IV and the normal transmitter T include resistances 74, 75 and 72, 73, which ensure that only magnets D<1>, E<1> at the supervising-station come into action, lighting lamps P', Q'. The magnets D, D<1>, E, E<1>, K are normally energized, and magnets 47, F are not energized, the magnet F being balanced. For fire alarm, a transmitter W is employed operated from switches B' between the connexions 53, 57 of the house circuits. The switch B' first makes contact at C and then breaks contact with terminals b on the wire 53. The first contact at C shortcircuits the magnet K, breaking contact at 56 and 63 and closing circuit at 76, 77, and 78. The magnet F is simultaneously unbalanced, and opens the circuit at the switches f, f<1>. By these changes, magnets H, H<1> are brought into circuit and attract spring-controlled levers h, h<1>, so that pawls thereon engage and rotate disks on a spindle r so as to bring an arm thereon to a first position t engaging a pallet w of a transmitter W. Subsequent withdrawal of the switch B<1> from terminals b allows the magnets H, H<1> to release the levers h, h<1>, which spring back and advance the disks another step by means of a second pair of pawls i, i<1>, thus disengaging the arm t from the pallet and setting the alarm transmitter in action. All four lamps P, P<1>, Q, Q<1> respond to the stronger impulses of this circuit.
