5920. Davies, D. J., and Roderick, L. March 9. Tool edges.-A guard adapted to be readily applied to the cutting-edges of axes or similar edged tools, and permitting examination thereof, consists of a part 1 of metal or other suitable material provided at each end, and, if desired, at one or more intermediate points with pairs of upward extensions 3, between which the bevelled tool edge is jammed for securing the guard thereon. The spaces between the extensions may be tapered at approximately the same angle as the tool edge to assist in fixing it, and a packing of wood or other suitable material may be inserted in the spaces and also at the bottom of the guard to prevent the possibilty of contact of the tool edge with the metal. A binding-screw 5 or a wedge may be combined with one or both of the extensions at the ends to further ensure the holding of the guard in position, and may be attached thereto by a length of chain to prevent its loss when the guard is not in use.
