Bag filters. - In feed - water filters of the multiple-tube type, the filtering-tubes are so arranged that they may be inserted or withdrawn separately through a wall of the filter case or the cover. The ends of the tubes 5, Figs. 2 and 5, which are perforated and covered with fabric 6, fit over spigots 7 of the seating 8, which is screwed into a plate 4, and which supports by arms 10 a central boss 9 carrying the end of a bolt 11 which passes through the cover 3. The upper end of the tube 5 is closed by a cap 12 carrying the bolt 11, which also passes through a washer 13 held in position by a nut 14, a radially - expansible rubber washer 15 separating the cap 12 and washer 13. The series of filtering-tubes 5 are usually arranged in three divisions. Feed-water passes through the opening 19 into the first division formed bv the plate 18, and purified water passes down into a chamber 20, thence up through the waterways formed by the bosses 9 into the interiors of the second series of filter-tubes. Filtered water passes into the compartment 21 containing the third series of tubes, through these, and finally passes away into the compartment 22 and thence through an opening therein. In a modification, the filter case may be divided into three sectorial compartments, and the tubes 5 may be provided with three concentric layers of perforated tubes and filtering - material, all fitting into one spigot 7 of the seating 8.
