Abstract

3981. Ridge, H. M. July 1, 1910, [Convention date]. Roasting - furnaces. - In a muffled ore-roasting furnace comprising a number of long flat hearths or muffles, each of which is provided with stirrers on vertical rabble shafts, the heating-gases are led along a flue d below the floor of the lowest hearth, and thence, in the opposite direction, along a flue between the roof of the first hearth and the floor of that next above, while the ore travels in the reverse direction. The end of the lowest muffle nearest the furnace h together with the furnace preferably extend beyond the end wall of the upper muffle to facilitate repairs to this portion of the apparatus. The rabble shafts where they pass through the muffle floors are surrounded by fire-brick to obtain gas-tightness and prevent overheating.
