Abstract

1890. Cleland, J. Jan. 25. Interconnecting guard with starting-gear.- A vertically pivoted lever is arranged and connected with the starting and stopping mechanism in such a way that it swings over the cover of the machine and holds it down when the machine is started, and when stopped, frees it. Fig. 1 shows the application to an underdriven machine having an hinged cover C<2>. The safety lever D is swung about its pivot by a bar D' connected with the usual belt-shifter C. In a modification, a suspended machine is shown in which the safety-lever is rocked by the lever controlling the driving-clutch.
