Abstract
1762. Wolseley Tool and Motor Car Co., James, F., and Coombes, H. Jan. 24. Hoods.-The peak stick and forward hoopsticks of a hood are connected together and to the front hoop-stick of the rear series by a system of links and levers so as to enable the whole of the front extension to be simultaneously collapsed, without lifting any substantial weight, by raising and pushing back the peak stick. Further, by constructing the lower ends of the rear hoop-stick to overhang its pivot as at c<1> or g, the usual stretcher bars for the rear portion of the hood may be dispensed with and the whole hood may be collapsed in one operation. Fig. 2 shows one form. The front and rear hoop-sticks A, C are connected by stretcher bars a, b and a radius rod c pivoted to the bar b and stick C. The peak stick B is connected to the stock A by a pair of links c, f and to the bar b by a link d. When the hood is fully extended the bars a, b are in alinement and the peak stick B is horizontal with the link e alongside it. A link, not shown, pivoted to the link f and adapted to engage a stud on the peak stick locks the members in extended position. In another form a further hoop-stick extends rearwardly from the lower end of the hoop-stick A and the arrangement of links is modified so as to effect its collapse against the hoop-stick A when the peakstick is manipulated. Fig. 8 shows a cabriolet in which, when the hood is extended, the peak stick B and cant-rail M are horizontal and alined and the cant-rail is supported by a front folding door pillar (not shown) and rear pillar F. The peak stick B is connected to the cantrail M by links m, k, the latter being extended to the pillar F, which is hinged to the hoopstick G. A pair of links n, n<1> are pivoted together and to the cant-rail and to an arm f<1> rigid with the pillar F. The link k lies alongside the cant-rail when the hood is extended.
