Abstract
858. Albert, E. Nov. 12, 1910, [Convention date]. Etching. - An etching-machine of the type described in Specification 23,392/06 is provided with (1) mechanism for imparting a varying rectilineal motion which periodically repeats itself, (2) an improved construction of paddle, and (3) means for raising and lowering the bath and emptying and filling the water-tank and bath. (1) The revolving sliding-crank mechanism for reciprocating the paddle consists of a disk w mounted on a fixed axle x and driven from an electric motor d by means of a friction wheel v. The axle x is provided with a fixed pinion x<1>, which meshes with a planet-wheel z on the disk w. The planet-wheel is provided with a dovetailed groove 27, in which a slide 28 is adjustably fixed. One end of the sliding crank n is pivoted to the slide 28. The crank n is provided with a slot 30, which slides on the axle x, and the connecting-rod n<1> is pivoted to the other end of the crank. The movement of the paddle may be varied by altering the position of the slide 28 in the groove 27. (2) The paddle is formed of corrugated sheet aluminium in three pieces. The outer ends of the outside corrugated pieces are engaged by the outer ends of the outer top sheets q. The inner ends nf the corrugated pieces and the top sheets q, and the ends of the central corrugated pieces and top sheet, are bent upwards along the crossplates r to form cross-bars l. The paddle is guided by pieces s sliding on rails t. (3) The bath c is attached to the frame by four links e, and is moved into working position by cranks e<1> connected by rods e<4> and operated by the handle f. The top edge of the water-tank 32 is level with the bottom of the opening h. The tank is supplied with water from a pipe 33 and hose 34. Taps 37, 38 are provided on each side of the knee joint 35 for filling and emptying the tank, the liquid in the latter case being siphoned off. In the same manner, the etching-bath c may be emptied.
