Abstract

139. Carl, A. P. M. Jan. 3. Incrustation, removing. - A composition for removing scale from boilers &c. consists essentially of hydrochloric acid and tartaric acid, to which are added nitric acid, sodium nitrate or oxalic acid, and soap powder or vegetable oil. The boiler &c. is filled with a solution of the composition. In order to prevent electrolytic action between different metals in contact with the solution, the metal surfaces are coated with a paste of white lead, minium, dextrine, and glycerine.
