Abstract

81. Leitner, H. Jan. 2. Regulating-switches; contacts.-A device employed in the automatic regulation of the voltage transmitted from an electric source comprises a commutator f<1>, between the segments of which are attached resistance coils f, and a slip-ring g electrically connected to one of the segments. The two elements are mounted upon a freely rotatable shaft, and very flexible metallic braids e<3>, g<1>, wrapped in opposite directions round the commutator and the slip-ring respectively, serve to make connexion to the circuit to be regulated. As the shaft is turned, the wrapping of the braid upon the commutator short-circuits an increasing amount of resistance, and vice versa. The device may be mounted in ball bearings.
