Abstract

29,489. Anderson, J. C. Dec. 19. Sparking-plugs. - The reduced end 4 of the central terminal is level with the insulation 3 and the shell 1. Opposite the terminal 4 is a funnel-shaped extension 6 attached to the shell and forming the earthed terminal, the hole in the funnel being larger than the end of the terminal 4 so that the sparks travel obliquely. A lining of higher or lower resistance than the piece 6 may be used in the funnel, or the lining may be of non- oxidizable material. The central terminal is preferably held in glass welded to the shell and terminal, and level with the shell; the projecting part of the terminal is surrounded by mica disks 10, of less diameter than the glass insulation to permit inspection of the spark.
