Abstract
28,931. BÚnard, C. Dec. 17, 1909, [Convention date]. Steering.-Steering-controls of known kinds for aerial machines are modified so that additional steering and balancing members may be operated without affecting the position of the rest. This is effected by passing some of the operating-cords through rings placed in suitable positions. Fig. 1 shows one form in which cords e', e<2> are operated by a rocking movement of the lever a about the axis b. The cords e<1>, c<2> are passed through the rings d<o> arranged in line with the axis d, which can be rotated to operate an additional member through wires g', g<2>. This rotating has no effect on the member controlled by the cords e', e<2>. Fig. 4 shows another form in which the bar a<1> slides in a guide b<1> to alter the lengths of the cords e<1>, e<2>. By rotation of the system about the axis d, cords g<1>, g<2>, connected at opposite ends of the guide and passing through a ring, are operated. Or. a lever may be secured to the spindle d. Further, a cross-bar may be employed at rightangles to the guide b<1>, and the cords from this may be passed through the ring d<o> so that two ordinary members may be controlled. Fig. 5 shows an apparatus arranged ordinarily to control two members, which are operated from the ring a fixed to a Cardan joint. The four wires e', e<2>, E<1>, E<2> from the ring are passed through the ring d<o>, and the cross-bar f carries the wires g<1>, g<2> to the additional member. In place of the levers to which the cords are connected, half-pulleys or hemispheres may be employed. Such a form is shown in Fig. 11. The pivot d is horizontal and carries a stirrup ring provided with an aperture d<o>. The wires E<1>, E<2> are carried on a half pulley B<o>. The wires (c<1>, c<2> are supported on a hemisphere b<0>.
