[Addition to 1604/10.] Bed-pans.-In order to prevent pinching the patient between the edges of the pan and the seat, the front of the pan is made rounded at a<2> to allow the pan to be tilted as it is placed beneath the patient. The handle is joined by means of an arch a<5> with the basin, which is also recessed at a<6> to form a space for the thumb.
