Abstract

Shafts. - Tubular flexible shafts for speedindicators, dentists' drills, &c. are formed of two or more superposed metal helices such as a, b wound alternately right and left hand, one or more of the helices being made of flat ribbon. The helices may be wound on mandrels, and slipped one inside the other, the inner ones being allowed to uncoil so as to press firmly against the outer. According to the Provisional Specification, all the helices may be of round wire.
