Abstract

26,995. Morrison, J. W., and Duckett, R., [trading as Duckett & Morrison]. Nov. 21. Reciprocating-punch machines.-Relates to a machine for punching a series of rows of perforations across the ends of belts which have to be laced together. The belt is fed to the punches by intermittently-actuated feed-rollers d, d, and is guided in its journey by laterally-adjustable guides b. The feed-mechanism and the punchactuating mechanism are operated by handlevers. The upper roller d<1> of the feed-rollers which are geared together, is pressed yieldingly on the lower roller d by adjustable springs d<2>, and it carries a ratchet-wheel f operated by a pawl f<2> on a hand-lever f<1>. The ratchet-wheel f may be replaced to vary the extent of feed and stops f<3>, /4 limit the movements of the lever f. The guides b are of angle-iron formation, and are adjusted to or from each other by a double-threaded screw c. The punches, which are preferably hollow, are mounted in a vertically-movable support h pivoted to an actuating- lever i pivoted at i<1> to the machine frame. The levers i, f<1> may be so connected that the feed is effected during the ascent of the lever i. A removable punch bed of lead or other metal or alloy may be employed, above which may be fixed a slotted guide-plate to receive the end of the belt. Stout needles or awl-like devices may be substituted for the punches where the belts to be perforated are of woven fibrous material. A single punch may be employed. According to the Provisional Specification, the punch-operating lever may be provided with cam-faces to depress the punch-support, springs being employed to raise it again; the punches may also be situated between the lateral guides and the feed-rollers.
