Abstract
26,356. Roux, M. Nov. 12. Transmutation of metals.-Iron is transmuted into silver or gold by subjecting a mixture of powdered iron and silica contained in a crucible to the action of a high temperature such as that produced by the electric arc. In a similar manner silver may be transmuted into gold, or metals such as antimony, tin, zinc, copper, lead, nickel, &c. into other metals. Instead of silica, any substance capable of being powdered, such as chalk, alumina, manganese, silicates, graphite, &c. may be used.
