Abstract

22,994. Kitchen, J. G. A., and Storey, I. H. Oct. 5. [Cognate Application, 24,051/10.] Supporting.-A number of lamps are mounted on a single base or in a single lantern for use on motor vehicles, the arrangement being such that the lantern can be fixed at any angle in a vertical plane, while the lamps or reflectors can be adjusted to reverse the direction in which the light is projected. In one arrangement the lamps are mounted in a box 3, Fig. 1, pivoted at the top of the wind screen 2 and held at any desired angle in a vertical plane by means of a thumb-screw 8. To adjust the angles of the beams of light in an horizontal plane, each lamp may be mounted upon a vertical pivot, or an arrangement such as that shown in Fig. 4 may be used, in which the lamps have lenses 9 at front and back and a rotatable reflector 26. The adjustment of the horizontal direction cf the beams may be effected simultaneously for all the lamps by means of a rack-bar 20 engaging with pinions 14 on the lamps. In the case of electric lamps, a series of lamps may be mounted inside the box 3, as shown in Fig. 12, each lamp being mounted on a vertical pivot 34, Fig. 10. The lamps may have separate switches 39.
