Abstract

Hubs. - To exclude dust from the bearings and hubs of cycles, motor-vehicles &c., a brush or pad is arranged to sweep the dust from the vicinity of the clearance space between the relatively rotating parts. The brush a, Fig. 1, is either fixed or revolves, and is secured by a spring-metal clip a<2> encircling the hub b, or it may be clamped on the axle by the end nut, or secured to one of the forks of the machine or to a spoke. Fig. 18 shows a modification in which a double-ended brush l, m sweeps the cone c and also the clearance between the freewheel clutch n<1> and the sprocket-wheel n<2>. The brush may be replaced by a pad or a roller held by a screw. Fig. 23 shows a clip k securing the brush to a spoke, and also a device for mounting the brush on a spring k<4> connecting two spokes. The clip k may be split at the end into spring tongues which embrace the spoke between them.
