20,716. Carpenter, J. M. Sept. 6. Locking - apparatus.- In a lock for motor and other cycles &c., of the kind wherein a bolt is adapted to be thrust between the spokes of the wheel and to be there locked, a bracket A holding a permutation or figure lock E is secured upon the axle by means of the usual axle nut, and the bolt F is passed through the bracket and an arm D upon the axle nut so that when the wheel is locked the axle nut and the lock cannot be removed. In order that the bolt may be pressed forward with the locking-rings in any position it is made hollow to contain a ratchet-toothed piece supported by a spring, and when the bolt is in operative position the teeth G of the ratchet-piece engage behind the rings. A small screw B may be provided to prevent complete withdrawal of the bolt. The bracket may be formed of two parts, as shown, brazed or riveted together, or it may be formed by bending a single piece of steel. A screw C fixes the arm to the bracket.
