Abstract

Rolling.-In rolling flanged sections, successive passes are arranged so that each pass rolls the flanges and web, but the flange edges are rolled so that in each pass one edge is rolled but the other is allowed unrestricted spread. The mill consists of two sets of four coacting rolls, driven in the same direction and reversed after each passage of the work. In the first pair, Fig. 3, the lower horizontal rolls have flange-edge rolling-collars P<1>; in the second pair, Fig. 4, the upper rolls have collars P, but one roll may have one collar on one side, and the other roll may have one on the other. The vertical rolls D, E have undercut portions where they touch the collars in order to allow a space for the flange edge to spread, the spread portion being rolled smooth in the next passage. The rolls are adjusted by screws, the nuts of which are operated by worm gear. Specification 15,803/02 is referred to.
