Abstract

19,199. Herrde, C. Aug. 16. Striking-mechanism.-For regulating the frequency of closing of an electric-bell circuit, the circuit is broken simultaneously at the bell and at a separate automatic switch, the closing of which is controlled by adjustable retarding- devices so that, although the circuit is again closed at the bell immediately, it is not completed until, after a predetermined interval, the automatic switch closes. The device may be employed to cause a bell to strike the hours in conjunction with a clock. The initial impulse is given by the clock-work or other means energizing the solenoid U, Fig. 5, which draws down the lever U<1>, which in its return movement under the action of a spring rotates the notched wheel W<1> through one tooth by means of the pawl V. Consequently, the lever T is raised from its position in the notch w into engagement with the contact T', whereupon the bell gives a series of impulses controlled by the contacts b and the dash-pot device X until the lever T falls into the next notch.
