Abstract
16,905. Lamplough, F. July 15. Clutches, friction.-Relates to double-acting cone or other clutches, hydraulically - operated during relative movement between the driving and driven members. The driving-casing a is provided with coned surfaces b, a<3> adapted to be engaged by cones c, c<1>, which turn with a block h' on the end of the driven shaft h. A flexible diaphragm d bears between flanges on the cones, which are normally disengaged by springs e. Secured to the casing a is a sleeve g with an eccentric part g<1>. In the part g<1> bears a ring g<3> which carries a pin g<4> engaging a piston j in the block h<1>. During relative movement between the sleeve g and ring g<3>, oil passes from the casing a into an orifice o<1> in a sleeve o, which is kept in position on the sleeve g by a spring pin o<2>. During the suction stroke of the piston j the oil passes through slots g<5> on one side of the sleeve g, and during the pumping-stroke it is pumped through a passage j<1>, past a valve k, into the diaphragm d, and puts the cone surfaces into engagement. Leakage between the block h<1> and sleeve g is prevented by the use of a plunger h<3>; Fig. 4, surrounding the piston j and pressed by springs h<5>, and by the oil pressure during the pumping- stroke, against the sleeve g. The clutch is disengaged by the movement of a sleeve l, which bears on pins m operating a bar m<3>, which in its turn opens valves k, n, thus permitting oil to escape from the diaphragm d through passages h<2>, g<6>.
