Vehicle fittings.- Household and like refuse is discharged from bins into the lower end of a shoot, up which it is delivered by compressed air into the collecting - vehicle. The bin 25 is introduced through a door 17 into a compartment 2, to which is secured a metallic tubular shoot 3 extending upwards through the body of the vehicle. The bin is secured to the hinged floor 14 of the compartment 2 by spring catches 16, and the floor is turned into a position to close the end of the shoot 3 by operating a handle 18 on a spindle 21, to which is secured a lever 22 carrying a roller 23 running in rails attached to the floor. Spring catches 20 hold the floor 14 in this position, and the refuse falls from the bin into the lower end of the shoot. The bin is freed from any adhering material by rotating a handle 26 on a spindle 27 carrying flexible steel tongues 28. Compressed air from a tank 6 is delivered to the lower end of the shoot 3 through openings 11<1> in numerous branches of a pipe 11, and the refuse is thereby forced up the shoot and delivered against a buffer device 5 into the vehicle. Other branches 11<11> from the main pipe 11 terminate in coils 29 which in conjunction with screws or fans are stated to produce a whirling movement of the issuing air to aid in delivering the refuse up the shoot 3. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) describes also a vehicle fitted with means for vacuum collection of refuse from dust bins or of street refuse placed in heaps. The refuse is covered by the flared mouthpiece of a flexible suction conduit, and the vacuum is produced by a pump. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
