Abstract

14,415. Miniscloux, C. R. June 14. Propelling.- Variable - speed a n d reversing gearing, suitable for dirigible balloons and aeroplanes, comprises a crank - pin 11, Fig. 2, of variable throw, connected by separate rods 12, 13, 14, 15 to two pairs of ratchet clutches 23, 24, Fig. 3, and 25, 26, which are for forward and reversed driving respectively. The pin 11 is secured to a nut 10 upon a screwed spindle 7 diametrically carried in a crank-disk 1 upon a driving-shaft 3. The spindle 7 is turned to vary the speed transmitted while the gearing is in motion through bevel-gearing 4, 6. The rods 12, 13, 14, 15 are connected to levers 19, 20, 21, 22, which normally oscillate loosely around a driven shaft 30. Rollers 34 lie in inclined recesses between the clutch drums 23, 24, 25, 26 and casings 27, 28, which are secured to the shaft 30 and are adapted to be alternatively driven in opposite directions. A double clutch 38 and two clutches 37 are adapted to be moved simultaneously to left or right by a lever 32 to connect the pair of levers 19, 20 to the pair of drums 24, 23, or the pair of levers 21, 22 to the pair of drums 26, 25.
