13,852. Stelfox, S. H. June 8. Slide-rules. - In order to render slide-rules more portable, the stock or slide or both are hinged or formed in two parts so as to be folded when not in use. Dowels may be employed to connect the two parts as shown in Fig. I, or the stock may be only of half length as shown in Fig. II. with the continuation of the scale repeated as shown, and the slide also in two parts butting together simply, or attached by spring pieces engaging shoulders as shown in Figs. III. and IV. The invention is shown applied to the " Mannheim rule " in which the scale on one half of the slide is shown twice on the other half, the fixed scales corresponding.
