Cutting-out apparatus; cutting-beds.-Relates to cutting-beds for clicking and like machines. and is described with reference to Specification 22,023/05. (1) The bed comprises a number of sections, which are interchangeable and reversible for the purpose of bringing all parts of the surface in turn into the area of greatest wear. Each section is composed of a base part 18 and a layer of cutting-block material 12. The sections 18 are slidable between guides 20 on a frame 26, each section having lugs 22 to interlock with lugs 24 on the guides, to prevent vertical motion. To lift a section out, it is moved horizontally until the lugs 22, 24 are out of locking relationship. The frame 26 is clamped to the bed 7 of the machine by bolts 9. The sections 18, when all are in position, are clamped by yokes 28 carried by set-screws 30, 32, and having lugs 38, 40 which enter recesses in the ends of the sections. The lugs 38, 40 and the recesses have inclined faces, so that the lugs exert a lateral and downward clamping-pressure. The number of sections is preferably six, and the Specification described how, by three successive re-arrangements, every portion is brought in turn into the region of greatest wear. (2) Each section has preferably a top surface 12 of layers of fabric impregnated with rubber or the like, a layer 16 of cushioning-material such as steam packing, and an intermediate hard layer 14 of rubber-impregnated fabric in which the rubber has been vulcanized to a higher degree of hardness than in the top layers. The layer 14 may be of a distinctive colour, which is visible when the layer 12 is used up.
