Abstract

12,219. Greisenegger, I. K. May 18. Fire-engines.-Relates to fire-engines of the kind that can be converted for operation either by manual levers or by horse gear. Fig. 1 is a side elevation and Fig. 2 a plan of the apparatus arranged for operation by a horse. A duplex pump 2 is provided, and the horse is secured to a draught-bar 25 connected to a spurwheel 5, which, through gearing 6, 7, 8, operates a shaft provided with two cranks 9. The upper crank is connected by a connecting-rod 11 and levers 12, 14 to one of the pumps, and the lower crank is connected to the other pump by a connecting-rod 15, a bell-crank lever 16, 17, and a link 18. In order to operate the pumps by hand, the connecting-rods 11, 15 are detached from the cranks 9, their ends being formed divided for this purpose, and the crank-shaft, the connecting - rod 15, the bell - crank lever 16, 17, and the link 18 are removed. The piston-rod of the pump thus disconnected is secured to the free end of the lever 14, which is oscillated by means of the lever 12 and the connecting-rod 11, to the divided end of which is attached the bar 25, this bar serving as one of the manual levers. The other manual lever is secured to the bar 25 by means of studs engaging recesses.
