Abstract

11,981. Allardice, J. May 14. Ventilating mines. - Relates to means for reversing the ventilation or air currents in a mine without affecting the working of the fan by constructing a forced or compressed air passage f from the fan casing to the fan drift b. When it is required to change the ventilation from exhaust to forced, the passage f is put into communication with the pressure side of the fan by raising a door e, cutting-out the discharge shaft d, and air-inlet doors g are opened in the fan-casing. The fan drift is cut off by closing doors a<1>. In a modification, the invention is applied to a Waddel fan. Iron doors p are placed in the up-cast shaft, and are closed in the event of an explosion wracking the surface-gear and thus short-circuiting the fan. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 5540108, [Class 85, Milling &c.].
